Why do I need a pre-operative assessment?

A preoperative evaluation is an essential step before any refractive surgery. It allows our surgeons to:
✔ To assess your eligibility based on your vision correction and the health of your eyes.

✔ To explain to you in detail the procedure, its benefits, and any potential side effects.

This assessment is conducted using specific tests (corneal topography, pachymetry, refraction measurement, etc.) to ensure personalized and safe care.

Is the consultation reimbursed?

The pre-operative assessment includes several exams and a specialized consultation with an ophthalmic surgeon.

✔ Medical aspect: Certain procedures may be covered by Social Security and your supplemental health insurance if a medical condition is detected.
✔ Evaluation for refractive surgery: The preoperative consultation for refractive surgery is generally considered a non-reimbursable procedure, as it is a cosmetic procedure rather than a medical one.

How does the first consultation work?

The preoperative evaluation takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour and consists of several steps:

✔ A personalized consultation with the surgeon to understand your expectations and assess your needs.
✔ A thorough examination of your vision:

  • Measurement of your visual correction (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia).
  • Analysis of the cornea (thickness, curvature) using corneal topography.
  • Check of intraocular pressure and tear film quality.

✔ A discussion about possible options :

  • If you are eligible, the surgeon will explain the technique best suited to your situation and answer all your questions.
  • You will receive all the information regarding the procedure, recovery, and expected results.
