Is the postoperative period after refractive surgery painful?

During the first 24 hours after the operation, it is possible to experience discomfort, a sensation of “dust in the eye,” or eye dryness, as well as eyelid swelling. Blurred vision and increased light sensitivity are also normal. However, any real pain should prompt the patient to return to the office for the ophthalmologist to check for infection.
